Masterful hands form this charismatic piece of art blending nature, silver and design. The set includes a bowl with a chameleon on its lid as well as a plate and knife. Designed to work as a butter bowl, it equally can be used for other foods or just to decorate and give a special touch to a china cabinet. The oval shaped plate is beat with a hammer to give it a border and a mark on top of which the bowl lid will lie. Hammering many times a sheet of copper until it has the desired form also forms the lid. The piece is then plated with sterling silver for a beautiful finish. The knife is chiseled by hand on a metal sheet, sharpened, and then decorated with numerous hand cut pieces of "jicorita" stone. The chameleon is fixed to the lid in a decorative and functional way. The soft green color of the stone is the chameleon’s main characteristic –its camouflage. This lizard starts as a brass figure that is curved by heat. The bottom of the reptile is another copper piece chiseled with lines and curved to give volume as it is soldered with the first piece. The head is made separately with the technique of lost wax and shows the texture of a chameleon’s skin and a rolled tongue ready to catch a passing insect. 7.09" x 5.12".
