Brass, copper, obsidian, mother of pearl shell and the finest silver are combined to produce this magnificent pitcher. The craftsmanship of this piece is demonstrated by the fact that it is created from a single sheet of copper that is hand hammered until it gets its beautiful form. No soldering, molds or mechanical process is used. The piece is then plated with sterling silver for a beautiful finish. The bird is hand crafted from a two-part metal body that is hammered and worked out for hours to give the desired figure. When both metal sides of the bird are joined, a brass open plume that was previously created will rest on top of the head emulating its natural colors. The bill is equally created with great care from two pieces of brass that have been pierced to form the nose orifices. The eyes, small pieces of obsidian, are gently placed on the head of the bird. Mother of pearl shell imitating the natural white feathers exquisitely covers the body of the bird. Each cockatoo requires approximately 220 hand cut pieces of shell carefully placed in the body by expert hands. The result of the long hours of meticulous work of an artisan creates a piece in which the beauty of the bird is admired and the excellence of the labor can be appreciated in the freshness of the white shell over the cockatoos since it seems to come alive with its yellow plume. Measures 9.84" high x 6.5" diameter. Please allow 10 business days for shipment of this item.
