A splendid representation of a legendary Aztec kitchen instrument is sure to beautify any room. T
his beautiful piece was designed after the typical Mexican "molcajete", used by the Aztecs to make "salsa" by grinding ingredients such as hot peppers by using a "tepontli", an instrument made of the same porous rock as the base of the "molcajete". It is still used in many places in Mexico as the original way to make the best tasting "salsa". This one-of-a-kind piece is made on metal that has been hand hammered to give it a unique texture similar to the rock originally used by the Aztecs and is decorated by a bird that works as a handle and at the same time adds presence and beauty. The metal is then plated with sterling silver. A white chested Toucan with black feathers is the bird that embellishes the piece. Shell and stone are cut piece by piece to fit into the toucan’s body and provide its natural colors. The bill is crafted using an original metal welding technique that combines copper, brass and monel. Once finished, the bill is joined to a completely handmade metallic body that was designed to look as if the toucan is standing on a branch observing its surroundings. The eyes are made from small pieces of obsidian. Measures 2.76" high x 5.91" diameter. Please allow 10 business days for shipment of this item.
